Emblem

Walter “Greg” Gregory Alford, age 64, passed away peacefully on November 1st after a brief and aggressive battle with cancer. He was born on May 26, 1961, in Montgomery, Alabama to Walter Gordon and Carol Mae Alford. Greg moved to Pinellas Park as a young child and later to Pasco County, where he graduated from Gulf High School in 1979.

Shortly after graduating, Greg proudly enlisted in the United States Army. He served honorably in both Germany and Colorado before returning home to begin his family. Greg went on to work for the United States Postal Service in Port Richey, Florida, where he dedicated over 30 years of service. He continued his hard-working nature at Composite Motors, Inc. for another 8 years before retiring in September of this year.

Greg loved sports — watching, coaching, and playing. If one of his teams was on, you could guarantee he was in front of a TV cheering loudly. His favorite teams were Alabama Roll Tide, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Atlanta Braves, and the Tampa Bay Rays. He played multiple sports throughout his childhood and high school years, and later continued through adult softball leagues and bowling leagues. He also treasured the years he spent coaching, and he carried those memories proudly throughout his life.

Greg is survived by his children, Meghan Hitchcock, Amie Alford, and Michael Alford, along with their spouses, Chris, Joe, and Ashley, respectively; his sister, Karen Alford; and his six beloved grandchildren: Jeremiah, Jacob, Anna, Benny, Kyndall, and Ellie.

Greg will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on Thursday, November 13, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and all who knew and loved him are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to HPH Hospice – Marliere Hospice House or the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital Fisher House Foundation in Greg’s honor.
