Sandra “Sandy” Acotto, beloved mother and grandmother, of Port Richey, Florida, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family leaving a void her family cannot fill.
Sandy was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, on August 18, 1948, to Joseph and Mary Acotto. She was an amazing mother and devoted homemaker, lovingly caring for her children until the family relocated to Florida in 1985. After the move, she worked for many years as an Environmental Services Manager at two long-term care and assisted living facilities, where her dedication and compassion were deeply valued.
Sandy had a passion for baking and cooking and could always be counted on to prepare something delicious — every dish made with boundless love. She instilled in her family the importance of strong family values and cherished traditions, lessons that will live on through generations. Sandy also had a special place in her heart for her neighborhood cats, faithfully feeding them each day and spending time with them, offering the same quiet care and kindness she shared with everyone she loved.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mary Acotto; her brother, Ronald Acotto; and her sisters, Donna Comito and Gina Acotto. She is survived by her brothers, Joseph Acotto and Carmen Acotto (Sharon); her sister, Marlene Nelson (late Dwayne); her sons, Lewis G. Zackal, Jr. (Sherry) and Scott Zackal (Cathy); her daughter, Kelly Barfield (Kees); and her grandchildren, Louis, Catherine, Aubrey, Megan, Kacee, and Kayla, who will forever remember the love she brought into their lives.
In accordance with her wishes, no funeral services will be held. She will be laid to rest in a private graveside tribute. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to any cancer foundation or local hospice organization.
