Rodney Allen “Luke” Berkey, 77, of New Port Richey, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on November 21, 2025. Born August 19, 1948, and raised in Windber, Pennsylvania, Rodney lived a life marked by hard work, deep faith, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Rodney proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army and was a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. Rodney served with 4th platoon, 3/60 9th Infantry Division May 1968 - March 1970. After completing his active duty service, he went on to retire with 20 years of service in the Army National Guard, Army Engineers (Johnstown, PA) and Company A, 2nd Battalion, 124th Infantry (later the 53rd Transportation Company, Clearwater, FL).
Rodney learned to do body work, working alongside his father, in his father's body shop, before being drafted and leaving for Vietnam. After returning home from the war, Rodney applied his remarkable skills as a body man, working for Mack and Hunt Truck Sales (Tampa, Fl), where he restored crashed 18-wheeler trucks with precision and craftsmanship.
A man of strong Christian faith, Rodney was an active member of Faith Baptist Church in New Port Richey. He found joy in traveling, fishing, hunting, and restoring trucks, but nothing meant more to him than time spent with his beloved family.
Rodney is survived by his devoted wife, Angeline (Cassanese) Berkey; his daughters Anna McFarland (Sam) and Lindsay Shields (Bobby); and his cherished grandsons Sammy, Jacob, and Brady.
He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his generous, kind heart, and the love he poured into everyone around him. He will be missed.
A comforting reminder of the hope he carried is found in John 14:2–3: “In my Father’s house are many mansions… I go to prepare a place for you… that where I am, there ye may be also.” He fought a good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The Gary Sinise Foundation, honoring and supporting America’s veterans: https://garysinisefoundation.org/donate
