Michael Tanner Park

July 4, 1945 — December 5, 2023

New Port Richey

In loving memory of Michael Tanner Park, it is with deep sorrow that we share news of his peaceful passing on December 5, 2023. Born at Camp Lejeune on July 4, 1945, to James Marion and Wanda Maxine Park, Michael led a life filled with family, friends, and golf. This true Kentucky Colonel is survived by his son Brian Park (Knoxville, TN), daughter Virginia Prairie (Shane) who live in Nairobi, Kenya, grandchildren Satchel and Ella-Rae who both attend Western Colorado University, as well as his sister Sheila Nichols and brother Steve Park who live in Louisville, KY, and many nieces and nephews. Michael leaves behind Beva Stevenson Karay, his first and last love. High school sweethearts, they rekindled their romance later in life, and the family is profoundly grateful for Beva's steadfast love and care throughout Michael's journey. An alumnus of Gulf High School in New Port Richey, Florida, Michael's educational pursuits took him to St. Pete College on a basketball scholarship, and he later earned his Bachelor's Degree at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Continuing his dedication to education, he obtained his Master's in Education at Murray State University in Kentucky. He served in the Army Reserve and was active in the local Sertoma Club. Returning to New Port Richey, Michael contributed significantly to the community as a teacher, administrator, and ultimately as the Director of Transportation for Pasco County Schools until his well-deserved retirement in 2005 which resulted in a Lifetime Achievement Award. Sports held a special place in Michael's heart, whether he was actively engaged in playing football, basketball, or baseball, or passionately cheering for his favorite teams. An accomplished golfer, Michael achieved two holes in one during his lifetime. Michael took immense pride in the achievements and adventures of his children and grandchildren, joyfully sharing their stories with anyone who would listen. The memory of Michael T. Park will forever linger in the hearts of his many friends and family. A Celebration of Life is scheduled to take place on or near his birthday, July 4, 2024, at the Timber Greens clubhouse. Further details will be shared in due course. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions in Michael's name to the
