Marie Regina Walsh Day, 75, passed away suddenly from heart failure on Oct. 30, 2025 after returning to Florida from a vacation trip to the Dominican Republic.
Marie was chaplain at the Chester McKay VFW Post 7987 in New Port Richey. As a former Faith Formation assistant at St. Ignatius of Antioch Parish in Tarpon Springs, Marie would use everyday items to teach the faith. In one such lesson she fired up a leaf blower to demonstrate the power of God.
Husband, Robert Day, a Vietnam War veteran, died July 8, 2021.
A native of Buffalo, N.Y., Marie graduated from Cardinal O’Hara High School in 1968 and Medaille College in Buffalo in 1972. She moved to New Port Richey, Fla., in the 1980s and began work at the business office at the Eye Institute there. She later worked at the Perich Eye Center.
Survivors include: sisters Maureen Walsh and Marianne Walsh of Dunedin, Fla.; Patty (Mark) Spang of Coventry Township, Ohio; and Eileen (Larry) Gramlich of Tonawanda, N.Y.; brothers Lawrence (Lynn) Walsh of Portsmouth , R.I.; Chuck (Debbie) of Middleburg, Fla.; John (Kitty) Walsh of Land O' Lakes, Fla.; and Joe Walsh (Stephanie Willett) of New Port Richey, Fla.
Marie was a devoted aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.
