Luz Celenia Nieves

April 30, 1942 — August 1, 2023

Port Richey

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Luz Celenia Nieves, our loving and devoted (Great) Grandmother, Mother and Dearest Friend on August 1, 2023 at 81 years of age. She was survived by her large family to include her 13 great-grandchildren, 13 grandchildren, 3 sons- Isaac, Richard, Angel (William -deceased 2012) and her husband Isaac Nieves Sr. of 62 years.

"Lucy" was a Godly woman, a caring soul to embrace...full of laughter, generosity, wisdom and strength. The biggest smile in the room. Born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, she was raised to live off the land, embrace nature and work hard. She came to the United States-NYC in 1950's and met her husband Isaac Nieves Sr. working at a hat factory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They soon married and started a family. She was an amazing cook and had an amazing Green Thumb. She always had orchids in her home and would talk and sing to them assuring that's what kept them alive. Community was important to her as well. She lived at Scholes Street in Brooklyn for a good majority of her life, at first with her Aunt and then later with her husband and four sons for 45 years. Her neighbors adored her, cared for and protected her and in turn, she would care for them, feeding them in time of need and as a form of generosity. She devoted her life to her family and was completely devastated by the loss of her youngest son William Nieves who died at the young age of 41 in 2012. She has pushed thru being surrounded by family and her dog Cookie in her Florida home with her many Orchids and her "Finca"...her Farm/Garden. She crafted many meals with fruits, herbs and vegetables from her "Finca"... including Gandules, Mangoes, Guavas, Pineapples and much more. She sure could cook a feast and she was always happy bringing her family together with great food and lots of love and laughter.

We will miss her deeply and forever remember her in our hearts, carrying her spirit in us as we continue to live in her legacy of love.

Psalm 73:23-26 23 Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. 24 You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. 25 Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has little I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
