Lawrence Harold Ruby

Feb 7, 1943 — Jun 27, 2026

Port Richey, FL

Lawrence Harold Ruby, 83, passed away at home with his family at his side after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born February 7, 1943, in Queens Village, NY, to Harold and Eileen Ruby.

Larry graduated from Andrew Jackson High and New York University (NYU). He worked in the oil industry while living in Connecticut and Massachusetts.

He married his childhood sweetheart, Bette Mascot, and raised his two daughters in Longmeadow, MA.

In 1984, Larry and his family moved to Port Richey, Florida, where he began an insurance business.

Larry was a hard worker, and despite many hardships in his life, he never quit; he never gave up. With determination and faith in God, he overcame many obstacles in his life.

He was a lifelong Episcopalian and a Past Master Mason of the Pearl of the West Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed volunteering in his church and community. Larry was a helpful, kind, and generous man.

Most of all, he was a faithful Christian, a loving husband to his beloved wife, Bette, of 61 years, and an adored father to his two daughters, Stephanie and Jennifer; a loved and respected father-in-law to Michael Josephik and Marvin Cook; a special Poppy to Katelyn (Andrew) Wilson, Laura (Andy) Gunn, and Amanda Cook; and a great-grand Poppy to Owens and Palmer Wilson. He also leaves behind a beloved sister-in-law, Barbara Vernon, who was a special part of his life since childhood.

We give thanks to God for the years we've had with Larry, and with sadness, we return him to God and release him into His eternal care. Larry was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.

Our family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to his devoted caregivers: Andrea, George, Valiant, Valerie, and a special thanks and appreciation to his primary caregiver, Marie Panos. Marie gave exceptional care and was truly devoted, never missing a day of work in over five years, even if it meant driving through hurricane-related weather and showing up on major holidays. She was an angel sent to us.

We would also like to thank Gulfside Hospice and the Pasco/Pinellas Area Agency on Aging for their support and care throughout this journey. We would not have been able to navigate this season of our lives without the grace of God, the compassionate care given to Larry, and the support given to all of us.

A requiem mass will be held on Friday, July 10th, 2026 at 11:00 am, at St Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 5326 Charles St, New Port Richey, Florida 34652.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association https://alzfdn.org/support-us/donate/ in memory of Lawrence Ruby.
