Joan Shellem Archer

March 6, 1961 — May 2, 2026

New Port Richey, Florida

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joan Shellem Archer — a loving mother, proud grandmother, devoted sister, creative spirit, entrepreneur, and friend to just about everyone lucky enough to cross her path.

Joan passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on May 2, 2026.

Born on March 6, 1961, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Joan was the eldest daughter of six siblings and, from the very beginning, carried herself exactly like a big sister should: fiercely protective, stubborn when necessary, and always ready to speak her mind. She was baptized Catholic at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, where she later made her First Communion.

Raised in Brigantine, NJ, Joan was athletic, energetic, and competitive in the best ways. Whether she was playing softball, hockey, or just trying to outdo everyone around her, she brought passion and determination to everything she touched. She attended both Holy Spirit High School and Atlantic City High School and built lifelong friendships everywhere she went.

Joan had a huge heart and a personality that could light up a room. She was strong-willed, funny, creative, and never afraid to be herself. She loved deeply, gave generously, and always showed up for the people she cared about.

But nothing shaped Joan more than becoming a mother.

Her three children were the center of her universe, and she spent her entire life making sure they knew they were loved, supported, protected, and believed in. Joan was the kind of mother who would give you her last dollar, lose sleep over your problems, and still somehow find the energy to cheer you on the next morning. She worked incredibly hard for her family, spending years with FedEx before becoming a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service, where she eventually retired after years of dedicated service.

Joan was also a true entrepreneur at heart. She never stopped creating, dreaming, or finding new ways to build something meaningful. Over the years, she successfully owned and operated businesses including Ultra Shine Blind Cleaning and Kleen Bee, but perhaps her favorite chapter came through Sadie Bug Couture. Through her handmade jewelry, crafts, and artistic creations, Joan shared pieces of herself with hundreds of customers, friends, and family members. She poured love into everything she made — usually with glitter somewhere nearby.

While Joan loved many things in life, nothing compared to the joy she found in being “Mom Mom.” Her grandchildren brought out her happiest, softest, and funniest side. She adored watching them grow, spoiling them every chance she got, and proudly watching her own children become loving parents themselves. That pride never faded.

Joan leaves behind a family who will forever carry her humor, creativity, strength, and unconditional love with them.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Rich Shellem; her father, John A. Shellem; and her sister, Jill Shellem Renner.

She is survived by her children: Bruce Archer (Amy), Jackie Archer (Dominic), and Krissy Archer; her seven beloved grandchildren: Bradley Winfough, Bruce Archer, Sadie Winfough, Giovanni Archer, Jett Cruz, Journey Cruz, and Ava Tabor; her siblings: John A. Shellem, Jean Little (John), James Shellem (Nancy), and Jay Shellem (Desiree); her aunts, Carol Shellem and Theresa Lopez (Paul) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends.

Joan will be remembered for her strength, generosity, resilience, creativity, and unwavering love. She had the rare ability to make others feel cared for, understood, and important. Her warmth filled every room she entered, and her love leaves a lasting imprint on all who knew her.

Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void, Joan’s love, lessons, creativity, humor, and spirit will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, family, and all those fortunate enough to have loved her.

She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and endlessly loved.

And somewhere, we’d all like to imagine Joan still creating something beautiful, laughing loudly, and keeping an eye on the people she loved most.
