On April 8th, 2026, Daniel (Neil) Bernardo was reunited with his beloved wife, Theresa Bernardo (née Simeone) in Heaven.
Neil lived a long and fulfilling life, 93 years of experiences, adding friends and family along the way.
Originally from Corona Queen, New York, Neil was born to Lena and Anthony (Antonio) Bernardo and raised in Brooklyn—A fact made obvious to anyone who spoke more than a sentence to him. He was the eldest son, raised alongside his sister, Amelia (Mimi), and his brothers, Carmine, Anthony (Jiggy), and John (Bubbie), who all preceded him in death.
He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean war.
Neil married Theresa on April 11th, 1959, and raised three sons: Anthony (Tony) Bernardo, Daniel (Danny) Bernardo, and Thomas Bernardo. With Theresa, Neil also raised one of his five grandchildren: Nicole Bernardo, while acting as a guiding force of tradition for his grandchildren: Kristopher Collazo, Maritza Collazo, Veronica Murphy (neé Bernardo), and Theresa Bernardo. In 2019, Neil became a Great-grandfather to Daniel (Little Danny) Murphy, born to Veronica and Michael Murphy.
An electrician by trade, Neil worked at Kings Highway Hospital as the engineering administrator until his retirement in 1995.
Upon retirement he and his wife relocated to Florida, where Neil used his handyman talents to sculpt their perfect home. Here, Neil made lifelong friends who realized that his hard Brooklyn shell hid a Kind-Hearted individual who was always willing to help. Kathy, Stacy, Carlos, Lillian, Liz, and Steve Jospey were staples in his life.
Neil never let blood define family—He treated Tony’s wife, Anne Collazo, as a daughter, teaching her everything from car mechanics and tile cutting to secret family recipes. His signature dishes will live on at family gatherings. Neil also eagerly folded Kelly Harrison-Collazo, wife of Kristopher, and Michael Murphy, husband of Veronica, into his family.
His life was long, filled with friends and family. Too many to list. He was a memorable person, once met and never forgotten.
We grieve his passing and celebrate his life every day.
