Born May 11, 1937 the second child of Loyd and Myra (Ellis) Solomon, Charles grew up in rural Indiana and, after a turn in the army during Korea, followed his dad into farming and then later created a business in farm drainage. In 1962, he married his life-long love, Carol Ann Klimp. Together, they raised 5 children: Mary (Craig) Cole, Myron “Butch” (Trish) Solomon, Charlotte (deceased in 1972), Sheri (Matt) Stipp, and Amy (Jamie) Weaver. Carol succumbed to cancer in 2015. Charlie left his childhood home for Florida in 2018. As he did his whole life, he made friends everywhere he went.
Those who knew him will attest to his quick wit. Charlie seemed to find the fun in every situation. He worked hard and instilled that value in his children. He had a lot of patience and was slow to anger. He was among the first to offer help when others needed it; from lending a tool to traveling to post-hurricane Mississippi to help rebuild. He encouraged those around him to be their best.
Eventually, Charlie was taken from us due to an abdominal aortic aneurysm and complications of diabetes. He died in Tampa, Florida on July 14, 2024, surrounded by family. He was survived by his 4 remaining children, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and his two sisters (Janet and Barbara). He will be remembered with great love and loyalty by those lives he touched.
